Abstract

Siring Kemuning Beach is a marine ecosystem containing gastropods with a coastal area that has a sandy beach type. Data collection was carried out by direct observation and sampling using hand picking techniques at three observation stations. Identification was carried out based on shell morphology with the help of scientific literature. The results of the study showed that there were 12 species of gastropods belonging to 4 orders and 9 families. The diversity index (H’) value was 2.34 which is included in the moderate category. The dominant species was Nerita undata with 34 individuals with a relative abundance of 12.73%. The substrates of the gastropods found included rocky, sandy, and coral substrates in the intertidal to shallow subtidal zones. The results of environmental parameter measurements showed a salinity of 30 ppt, pH 7.5, and a temperature of 29.8°C which are still in the optimum range for gastropod life. In addition, the number and diversity of species tended to be higher in locations far from human activity, indicating that substrate characteristics and the level of human activity play a role in influencing the distribution and diversity of gastropods. This research is expected to serve as a reference for coastal ecosystem management and biodiversity conservation in the Bangkalan area of Madura.
