Abstract

This community service initiative aims to enhance the understanding of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) among employees at Chemika Karya, serving as a foundation for implementing safe work practices. The activity was conducted on August 11, 2026, using an educational and participatory approach that included identifying needs, presenting contextual material, discussing case studies, reinforcing the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and facilitating reflection and evaluation. The content covered hazard identification, the hierarchy of risk control, the use of PPE, safe operating procedures, and emergency preparedness. A descriptive qualitative evaluation was carried out through Q&A sessions and participant reflection to assess their grasp of potential hazards, preventive measures, and the application of OHS principles in the workplace. While the evaluation results indicate that participants understood the material discussed, they do not allow for a quantitative measurement of the extent of knowledge improvement or the overall success rate of the program. This is due to the absence of pre- and post-activity assessments and an evaluation of changes in work behavior. Consequently, this OHS education should be followed up with regular safety briefings, communication regarding chemical hazards, PPE inspections, and monitoring of compliance with safe work procedures. This initiative serves as an initial step toward strengthening OHS awareness, which must be supported by robust risk control measures and management commitment.
