Penguatan Iklim Sekolah Religius dalam Upaya Pencegahan Bullying di Lembaga Pendidikan Islam

Abstract

Bullying remains a concern in educational settings, including Islamic educational institutions based in pesantren environments. This study aims to describe the forms of bullying that occur and analyze the reinforcement of a religious school climate as an effort to prevent bullying at MTs Intisyarul Ulum. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the head of the madrasah, teachers, and students. The findings reveal three main points. First, bullying was still found in the forms of verbal ridicule, name-calling, intimidation, coercion, physical actions, and seniority practices. These behaviors were influenced by students’ adaptation to a new environment, limited emotional regulation, insufficient understanding of the distinction between joking and bullying, and the existing culture of seniority. Second, the religious school climate was strengthened through religious habituation, teacher role modeling, internalization of equality and brotherhood, and the cultivation of empathy, care, and mutual respect. Third, these efforts were supported by teacher supervision, guidance from the beginning of student orientation, early identification of potential bullying, and prompt and consistent case management. The findings indicate that a religious school climate functions as a preventive mechanism through the internalization of Islamic values, the development of positive social relationships, and continuous supervision. Nevertheless, strengthening the religious climate does not completely eliminate the potential for bullying; therefore, continuous collaboration among the madrasah, teachers, parents, pesantren administrators, and students is required.
